Mission

We are stewards of charitable funds entrusted to us by those who want to give back to the community and who want to build a permanent endowment for the future.

Individuals, families, businesses, foundations, and charitable organizations make gifts and bequests through the Community Foundation of Delaware County to benefit our community now and for future generations.

Community foundations are non-profit organizations that oversee permanent endowment funds set up by members of its community—usually in a specific geographic. A community foundation is a collection of charitable funds both large and small. These funds are invested and distributions from these funds are awarded as grants to local charitable organizations. Funds are usually endowed, thus continuing to grow ensuring that each gift will benefit the community now and in the future. There is a community foundation for almost every county in Ohio, and more than 700 community foundations across the country. One of the unique aspects of community foundations is that they exist for the benefit of the community for good, for ever.

The Community Foundation of Delaware County was established in December 1995, to enhance the quality of life for county residents. It currently manages $7.5million for charitable purposes. In slightly more than a decade, the Foundation has awarded nearly $3 million in grants and scholarships.

The Foundation is able to negotiate and receive planned and deferred gifts. It can accept donations of cash, securities and other property. The Foundation pools resources for maximum benefit and applies skilled, long-term management to the funds.

Through its endowment and new gifts, the Foundation responds to the growing needs of Ashley, Delaware, Galena, Lewis Center, Ostrander, Radnor, Powell, Sunbury, as well as other areas of the county. The result is improving the quality of life for those who live and work in Delaware County.

Vision

The Foundation’s goal is to serve as the leading resource for philanthropy in Delaware County. The flexibility of Foundation funds allows it to support everything from educational to cultural programs. The possibilities are endless once a large endowment is established.
